Sugar cubes are such a classic tea-time accompaniment, however, it’s not often you see them offered anymore. This makes them all the more magical to create at home! Lavender Vanilla Sugar Cubes are an inexpensive and simple treat that come together easily and brighten up any warm drink. Not only do they look adorable alongside a cup of tea, but the floral lavender and warm vanilla infuse extra flavor throughout your beverage.
Making these sugar cubes couldn’t be easier. Just a bit of water and vanilla extract is all it takes to turn table sugar into a sandlike mixture that can be packed into molds. I like to add a touch of food coloring to infuse the sugar cubes with a subtle purple hue, but this is completely optional. The fragrant lavender flowers add just enough scent without overpowering the vanilla.
I love keeping these custom sugar cubes on my counter with my tea, but they make a thoughtful and inexpensive gift as well! A jar of homemade sugar cubes wrapped with a bow would certainly be a unique and useful present for any tea or coffee drinker.
I hope you love these Lavender and Vanilla Sugar Cubes as much as I do! If you make this recipe, leave a comment and let me know what you thought or feel free to ask a question! I’d also love to see what you made! Tag me in your food pics @fortheperfectbite or use #fortheperfectbite on Instagram.
Lavender Vanilla Sugar Cubes
Ingredients
- 1 tsp dried edible lavender flowers
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ tsp water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- food coloring red and blue (optional)
Instructions
- Finely chop or grind the dried lavender into a fine texture.
- If you are using food coloring, stir one small drop each red and blue food coloring into the ½ tsp water.
- Mix the lavender into the sugar and stir in the water and vanilla extract until it is evenly distributed and the sugar is the texture of damp sand.
- Pack the sugar into your sugar cube molds, using your fingers to press the sugar into each mold until firmly packed. The more firmly packed the sugar, the better the integrity of the final cubes.
- Allow the sugar cubes to dry and set, uncovered, at least 8 hours or overnight.
- When the cubes are set, gently pop them out of the molds and store them in a cool, dry place until ready to use.
- Serve as a replacement for sugar in any application, such as with coffee or tea.
